2008 will be an 'international' year for Aishwarya Rai

The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may be looking forward to the release of Jodhaa Akbar , but she also seems keen to fill her kitty with a number of international films.
Ash will reportedly star in one of the most expensive French film series of Asterix and Obelix. The film titled, ‘Asterix at the Olympic Games’ is reported to be one of the most expensive European films at approximately 93 million dollars. Apparently the film is also slated to premiere in India at the prestigious French Film Festival. According to sources, the makers of the Asterix series have written a special role just for Ash.
The series has not had any female characters and Ash will be the first female character in the film.
Ash will be working with top international stars like Gerard Depardieu who plays Obelix, Clovis Cornillac, other international celebrities like Michael Schumacher, Jean Claude Van Damme etc.
However Ash's presence in the film is not yet being revealed and she is obviously considered one of the top stars on the international front and hence she is receiving lucrative international projects.
The film will also premiere in India at the French Film Festival and it is likely to coincide with Beijing Olympics of 2008.
Meanwhile Ash is busy with her other international projects, she has been shooting for ‘Pink Panther’. Also she is supposed to play Mumtaz in Ben Kingsley's ‘Taj Mahal’.
Now it seems that Ash has been offered another international project on the Taj, Michael Radford's Taj. But in Radford's Taj, she has been offered the role of Mandi, Salim's wife.
Radford's project too will be on a large scale and he is currently trying to generate funds.
However it is not yet known if Ash has accepted the role in Radford's film. Radford meanwhile says "Aishwarya is ideal for my film."
Both the Taj projects will be shot in different locations in India. Ash seems keen to fill her kitty with a number of international films.

Oscar for Capra's 'Prelude to War' given to Army

The Army, with a hand from Hollywood, has received a long-lost Oscar back into its ranks.
The little statue took a long, and largely unknown path before being passed from Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President
Sid Ganis to an Army general during a Wednesday night ceremony and screening.
In 1942, a few weeks after Pearl Harbor, filmmaker
Frank Capra joined the Army and was assigned to create a film series, "Why We Fight." Major Capra, who had directed such films as "It Happened One Night," "Lost Horizon" and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" was told to create the documentary "Prelude to War."
He showed the finished work to Army Chief of Staff Gen. George C. Marshall, who insisted that President Roosevelt see the film.
In his 1971 autobiography, "The Name Above the Title," Capra wrote of a screening at the White House. Amid the applause at the end, FDR exclaimed: "Every man, woman and child in the world should see this film!"
"Prelude to War" was at first seen solely by soldiers in Army quarters, but the Army eventually relented and 250 prints were sent to theaters across the country.
The Academy staged a screening of "Prelude to War" on Wednesday night at the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study in Hollywood.
"Sixty-five years later, 'Prelude to War' still continues to be one of the greatest documentaries ever made," said Ganis, the emcee for the screening.
In 1942, "Prelude to War" won an Oscar for Best Documentary by the U.S. Army Special Services but, Ganis explained, the prize wasn't an Oscar but a plaque. All of the awards were in plaster, not metal, during the war because of the metal shortage.
After the war the Army received an actual Oscar statue and it was stored in the Army Pictorial Center. When the center closed in 1970, the Oscar disappeared.
Capra, who died in 1991, made other documentaries for the military during the war, including "The Nazis Strike," "The Battle of Britain," "The Negro Soldier" and "Divide and Conquer."
Earlier this year, Christie's auction house advertised an Oscar for sale. It was the missing "Prelude to War" award.
The Academy notified the army, which claimed the prize.
On Wednesday night, Ganis presented a polished, 8-pound Oscar to Brig. Gen. Jeffrey E. Phillips, deputy chief of public affairs for the army.

Jessica alba

Born in Pomona, California, on April 28, 1981, Jessica Alba and her family moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, when she was an infant. Three years later her Air Force father brought the family back to California, then to Del Rio, Texas, before finally settling in Southern California when Jessica was nine. In love with the idea of becoming an actress from the age of five, she was 12 before she took her first acting class. Nine months later she was signed by an agent. A gifted young actress, Jessica has already played a variety of roles ranging from light
comedy to gritty drama since beginning her career. She made her feature film debut in 1993 in Hollywood Pictures' comedy Camp Nowhere (1994). Originally hired for two weeks, she got her break when an actress in a principal role suddenly dropped out. Jessica cheerfully admits it wasn't her prodigious talent or charm that inspired the director to tap her to take over the part -- it was her hair, which matched the original performer's. The two-week job stretched to two months, and Jessica ended the film with an impressive first credit. Two national TV commercials for Nintendo and J.C. Penney quickly followed before Jessica was featured in several independent films. She branched out into TV in 1994 with a recurring role in Nickelodeon's popular comedy series "The Secret World of Alex Mack" (1994). She played an insufferable young snob, devoted to making life miserable for the the title character, played by Larisa Oleynik. That same year she won the role of Maya in "Flipper" (1995) and filmed the pilot for the series. She spent 1995 shooting the first season's episodes in Australia. An avid swimmer and PADI-certified scuba diver, Jessica was delighted to be doing a show that allowed her to play with dolphins. The show's success guaranteed it a second season, which she also starred in. Her involvement in the show lasted from 1995 to 1997. Since the show ended she has appeared in a number of TV shows and films. In 1996 she appeared in Venus Rising (1995) as Young Eve. The next year she appeared on the "The Dini Petty Show" (1989), a Canadian talk show, and spoke about her role in "Flipper" and her general acting career. She began working on P.U.N.K.S. (1999), featuring Randy Quaid, in 1998. In early 1998 she appeared in "Brooklyn South" (1997) as Melissa. That same year she was in two episodes of "Beverly Hills, 90210" (1990) as Leanne and in two episodes of "The Love Boat: The Next Wave" (1998). She appeared in "Teen Magazine" in 1995 and various European magazines in the following several years. More importantly, she was featured in the February 1999 issue of "Vanity Fair" magazine. She also had major roles in two movies that year: Never Been Kissed (1999) and Idle Hands (1999). In 2000 she had roles in Paranoid (2000/I) and starred in the sci-fi TV series "Dark Angel" (2000).

Josie maran

Hii…Click image

"I'm still figuring out why people would want to look at me. Maybe it's generic beauty, but it's weird to be valued for something I was born with." - Josie Maran This chestnut haired exquisite beauty is best known for her work in the Summer '98 and Fall '98 Guess? advertising campaigns. Josie Maran was born and raised just outside San Francisco in Menlo Park, and graduated from an all-girls private school. Although she now resides in Manhattan, California will always be considered home. Following the path of many other models, Maran did not initially aspire to be a model. She was hanging out with her friends at a BBQ in her hometown three years ago when a woman asked her to be in a fashion show. This request was the beginning of her modeling career, since a modeling agent at the show spotted Maran and encouraged her to start modeling. Presently managed by the Elite Model Management, Maran has graced such magazine covers as Fitness, Glamour and Teen, as well as Shape, Seventeen, Stuff, and Sport. Apart from her work in the Guess? advertising campaign, she also appeared in ads for Maybelline and American Eagle Outfitters. People may recognize her as the main female character in the Backstreet Boys video, "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)". Although Maran has already had an impressive modeling career at the tender age of 20, she is still down to earth. Not only does she "look at life as an adventure", but she also enjoys learning about different people, cultures and countries. When not working, Maran makes time for her favorite pastimes: reading, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. With such a large number of young girls being approached by modeling scouts, she advises young aspiring models to finish high school, since there is always time for modeling after graduation. She also suggests to keep an open mind, not to take life so seriously and be deceived -- modeling is not as glamorous as it seems! It may not be glamorous, but with Maran's natural beauty, she makes modeling seem like second nature, despite the fact that she is only 5'7" tall(below the standard for female models).Maran hopes to continue modeling for a few more years and eventually try her hand at acting.
